In the second phase, we have three main activities that were executed by order and according to our timeline as below:
The first activity was; the selection of the project participants according to their project applications and one on one meeting, where finally 30 project ideas were selected.
The second activity was the in-depth training, where the 30 selected students took an In-depth & detailed training in three fields: Soft Skills for entrepreneurs, Business Model Canvas, and Business Plan: Financial & Technical Aspect.
The third activity was the organization of two days Business Plan Writing workshop, where participants continued working on their project’s Business Plan along with our experts and mentors.
A little overview of the selected candidates shows that 60% of the selected candidates are between 20-23 years old (which shows that the entrepreneurship mindset is developing among younger and early stage students).
In distribution of the field of study of the selected participants which shows that 40% of the selected candidates are pursuing a Science and Applied Science & Technology fields (which is due to the distribution of the network of the Higher Institutes of Technological Studies in the Tunisian Center, Also where most of our ideation camps took place & where it has most of the students population(I didn’t get the point). Last but not least, this represents a powerful message for the government to invest more in these fields of study.50% of the selected candidates are studying at a Masters degree level, 33% are in a 3-year bachelor degree, and 17% are in Doctoral degree.
The 30 selected projects were grouped by sectors, where 27% of the projects are working in the Information Technology & Communication sector (IT), which presents a promising market in Tunisia and in the world. The second rank is shared by the Agriculture, Industry and service sector with each sector having 20% of the total selected projects. Finally, 13% of the projects are Handicrafts and traditional made Businesses (the Tunisian Handicrafts present one of the top exports priorities)
After selecting the 30 best project ideas, we divided the participants into 3 groups where each group had 10 participants which made it easier for the trainers and experts to work on every project independently to ensure the efficacy and the quality of the training.
The training was divided into three themes and every training lasts 3 days for each group:
The in depth trainings were organized during weekends and Academic holidays in order for all the students to attend the training and avoid any missing classes, the training started from January 24,25 and 26 2020 till March 12, 13 and 14 2020.
1- Soft Skills & Design Thinking for entrepreneurs
The soft skills for entrepreneurs training was held every weekend during the period between January 24, 2020 to February 9, 2020.The aim of this training is to help participants understand the profile and the soft skills of an entrepreneur and the best tools and methods to acquire and develop those skills, which mixed both the theoretical and practical activities
The soft skills for entrepreneurs training session helps the participants during the events, but also it will be some lifelong skills that will help them analyze all types of their public & professional relations, and Business negotiation.
This training session will help also the participants get rid of their fear of public speaking, and make them ready for professional entrepreneurship life.
At the end of every training session, we invite one of our 8 strategic partners in this project to talk about the services of her/his institute toward the young entrepreneurs, and more importantly to raise our participants’ awarness about the role and function of every structure in the entrepreneurship ecosystem.
2- Business Plan 1: Market Analysis & Business Model Canvas
The Business Model and Market study training was held every weekend during the period between February 14, 2020 to March1, 2020. The aim of this training is to help participants understand the main parts of the Business Model Canvas, and Business Plan and how to start their Market Study using the required tools and Materials for that.
The training session on Business Model Canvas (BMC) and Market Study has given the key points and the main structures for a successful Business or project which will not only have positive impact on their actual Business ideas. Also, this will present a business skill that they can use to draft the basics of any project or company.
At the end of this training, participants were able to learn about the required skills for entrepreneurs through identifying all the parts of a Business Plan, and start the Market study of each project ideas. The work was divided into two parts; the first part started from the training session and explanation of the details of the BMC and Business Plan. The second part was homework offered by the expert to all the participants to analyze their markets and stay connected to the trainer and the program staff for any follow-ups or questions.
3- Business Plan 2: Technical & Financial Aspect
The Business plan: Technical & Financial training was held for two weekends during the period between March 6, 2020 to March 15, 2020, The aim of this training is to help participants continue working on their Business Plan and help them prepare their technical and financial study using the knowledge and skills taught in the previous training. Where the participants had the time and knowledge to work in details with their project idea to finally professionally pitch their ideas.
At the end of this training, participants were able to learn about the required skills for entrepreneurs through identifying all the parts of a Business Plan, and start the Technical & Financial study of each project ideas. Also, the participants were able to identify all the different parts of their project’s Business plan, and be able to pitch it in front of the program jury and experts, which will make them ready for any professional pitching in the future.
